Meet the designer | shirt #37 – Karla Jáuregui

The next two years we’ll be upcycling 100 t-shirts into a green statement. We started end of last summer with the #100greenstatements project, which means every week we are collaborating with new artists or designers. They will all show ways to create, repair, or style their old t-shirts in new ways. Can’t wait to see what they will make. And of course, we are curious: What is their story?

This week Karla Jáuregui in the spotlight, she is a sustainable fashion designer!

Can you tell us a little bit about you?

Hi, my name is Karla Jáuregui. I’m 23 years old and I’m studying fashion design in Monterrey. I love to design clothes made from wasted materials, that’s why I seek to work for a circular economy. Apart from, being interested in sustainable fashion, I enjoy drawing and learning languages.

How you started your business?

As some people know, I have my own fashion brand Kafenook, which sells clothes made up with natural coffee dye. I started that brand with the idea of using some of the techniques I learned in my university classes, and I also wanted it to be sustainable. On the other hand, I’m opening a new fashion brand in December, which it’s also aims to be sustainable by supporting small business and by having designs that could be used in multiple ways, to reduce massive consumption.

What are your dreams?

I’m really interested in sustainable fashion and I’m looking forward to creating designs that will help the environment. One of my biggest dreams, besides creating my own sustainable fashion brand is, being an ambassador of an organization that looks to care about the planet, the ocean and animals in extinction. Moreover, I will love to travel and found out more about different cultures and sustainable methods to implement in the fashion industry.
