Shirt #21 | Meet the maker – Charlotte Duzong

Every week we have a new collaboration, showing you 100 ways to upcycle, repair or rewear a t-shirt. Turning it into a green & sustainable statement. 1 shirt, 100 makers, designers and artists. This week it’s shirt #21!

For this shirt we are joined by Charlotte Duzong, fashion redesigner and founder of Creative Fashion Academy. She shows an outfit redesigns on Instagram every week, using the ideas of her followers to support her design choices. How amazing is that! We are happy she wanted to join our upcycle challenge and can’t wait to see what she made. But first, let’s read a little bit more about Charlotte & the Creative Fashion Academy!

Can you tell us a little bit about you?

I am an Arubian woman living in the Netherlands, mom of two amazing teenagers. I am a fashion redesigner and founder of Creative Fashion Academy. Evolved from the production industry, I enjoy ongoing challenges to share my vision of global refashioning, one upcycled puzzle piece at a time.

How you started your business?

The global crisis was a real wake-up call for me! The situation made me realize that we only have one life and then we better do what we really like to do. Before I started my company in April 2020, I gave creative lessons in primary schools. When school where closed I had to come up with something different. And so the idea arose to give online workshops for children on YouTube. Shortly afterwards I gave Mode DIY workshops to girls and after that I started my first Kidz Fashion Label course for girls between 8 – 12 years old.

Even in these times I remain creative and I started sharing my redesigned clothing on social media, which fits very well with the sustainable and circular economy.

What are your dreams?

My mission is to inspire thousands of people to do more with the clothes that are already have, but we no longer wear. As a result, we not only extend the life of every clothing and textiles, but we also contribute to reducing the pollution of the planet. My dream is to leave a better world for generations to come, by redusing the textile and clothing waste on landfills.
