Every week we are joined by a new maker who is creating, repairing, upcycling a t-shirts. Can’t wait to see what they will make. And of course, we are curious: What is their story?
This week in the spotlight is Skye from the Slow stitch club, a textile artist/maker living in mid Sussex. Who is running an Instagram account with the most amazing visible mending inspiration. Visible mending is repairing your clothes by hand, but not making it as invisible as possible. With visible mending you show the repair, in a way that embellishes your clothes. How did you start (your business)?
I studied Fashion Design Enterprise at uni, and in the last few years I’ve spent a lot of time in the world of visible mending. It’s been almost a year since I set up this page for slow stitch club and decided to turn my passion for visible mending into a project to build a community and learn together.
What are your dreams?
I think that education should be for everyone, so I want to share the skills I have with people who want to learn more about mending their clothes. I’d love to be able to go back to teaching workshops when it is safe to do so again, but for now I want to keep inspiring people to pick up a needle and thread and just give mending a try.
